So, last night I enjoyed spending the evening with L. Tom Perry. It was a small, intimate gathering of me, L. Tom, and about 600 of our closest friends. ;)
Actually, I was quite excited to go to a meeting where one of the 12 Apostles would be speaking. Even if it wasn't exactly a small little gathering! L. Tom Perry is in charge of missionary work in this area, and I am a ward missionary. So I was invited to go. :) It was such a good meeting. Pretty casual. (More of a presentation- he even used powerpoint!) And he's 87 years old!! I was so impressed! And he's funny too.
He talked about the importance of just getting correct, clear doctrine out there. Because half the people don't even know what we (our church) believes. And there are so many misconceptions.
And he talked about the church's growth in other countries, and how in the US it's remained about the same. And one of the last things President Hinckley asked him to do before he passed away was to ensure that the joy of the gospel was shared as much in our own country as well!
So..all in all... a very good way to spend a Friday evening!! I came out more motivated than ever to be a good example to others. And to pray for missionary experiences, so that I might know who the Lord has prepared to hear the gospel.
